MY VERDICT? Philippa Gregory is at the top of the game here. This is so well written that it hooks you from the first page and doesn’t let go. The machinations of the Tudor court are fascinating, as is the depiction of the decline and delusions of Henry Viii. I read this on a plane and barely registered the turbulence! Absolutely brilliant.
